CorralejoLocated close to the northern tip of the island approximately 35km from the Airport, Corralejo is one of Fuerteventura's busiest resorts. A scruffy kind of place, it manages to retain the character of a Canarian Town despite the dominance of Tourism.
Originally a fishing village, Corralejo has grown rapidly as both a Resort and a Ferry Port with frequent Ferry services to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote being offered by the companies Fred Olsen, Lineas Romero and Naviera Armas. The port also offers an array of Marine Excursions and activities as well as trips to the nearby Lobos Island.
Corralejo has, by far, the best nightlife on the Island with plenty of varied entertainment catering to most tastes and ages.
The Centro Comercial Atlantico on the Avenida General Franco has many Disco-bars and is the focal point for Teeny-boppers and Twenty-somethings.
Nearby there is a small square (hidden away in the narrow pedestrianised streets) which is called either 'La Placita' or 'Music Square' depending on the map, here you will find many open-air restaurants and bars offering something a bit more romantic and less rowdy than the nearby Centro Atlantico. In recent years, the town has become very popular with Italians, many of whom have relocated here and opened businesses; so you will find plenty of Italian food on offer.
There are several pleasant beaches in the centre of Corralejo, however the real attraction are the 'Grandes Playas' or 'Dunas de Corralejo' to the south of the resort, this enormous expanse of white sand is just a short Taxi ride away from the main resort. Surfers have left their mark on the Town in terms of a general laid-back feel to the place that is not found in other Canary Island resorts and the many Surf shops along the main Avenue. Windsurfing and Kite-surfing are very popular activities in the area with courses and equipment available from the many Windsurf Schools and Centres.
Finally, for the family, there is the Acua Water Park (formerly Baku Water Park) at the southern end of the Resort, which is open between the end of March and early November.
