Fuerteventura

The semi-desert Island of Fuerteventura is located just 100km from the coast of Africa (near the border of Morocco and Western Sahara). It enjoys a dry subtropical climate with average monthly temperatures ranging from 17°C in January to 25°C in August. The island receives, on average, just 141mm of rain per year - some parts of the UK receive over 4000mm of rain per year!

Fuerteventura is the longest Island in the archipelago measuring 98km from north to south and is the second-largest Canary Island after Tenerife. The unforgiving barren and arid interior of the island shares much with its African neighbours of Morroco and the Western Sahara with sparse rainfall, rocky-desert landscapes (the temperature of these rocks can reach 67°C on a hot day!) and simple flat-roofed white-washed villages.

Despite Tourism being a relatively recent phenomenon on the island, there's a well-developed infrastructure with Golf Courses, a Zoo, a Water Park and numerous Marine Excursions. If you fancy something a bit more active, the Island offers great Surfing, Windsurfing and Kite Surfing as well as Big Game Fishing and Diving.

Fuerteventura's resorts are quite varied in character; Corralejo, in the north of the island, has a bohemian-surfer appeal and has the best nightlife, Caleta de Fuste is a purpose-built resort with easy access to the airport, Costa Calma attracts a mostly German clientele while Morro Jable/Jandia has the best beaches.

Fuerteventura Beaches

Fuerteventura is perhaps most famous for its beaches, with over 50km of stunning white and golden sand. If you just want to take it easy, then those miles of sand make for a perfect getaway and you should be able to find a relatively secluded spot for yourself even in peak season.

In short, there is something for everyone - Families, Twenty-somethings and Sports enthusiasts alike.
